Norman W. Dorval, 79, died April 15, 2012, at his home in Ft. Myers, FL.

Norm was born November 2, 1932, in Woonsocket, RI, to Tancrede C. Dorval & Helen R. Leboeuf.

He attended Assumption Prep in Worcester, MA. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he continued his education at Bryant College. He was a successful businessman owning a screw machine engineering business, teaching his trade and serving on the Board of Davies Technical High School. Norm’s educational accomplishments also included co-authoring a screw machine training manual, holding notary public certification, earning a real estate salesperson license and being a certified member of the FL State Panel of Consumer Arbitrators.

Norm was active in the community, serving as President of the Lyon’s Club in Pawtucket, RI and on the supervisory committee of Central Falls Credit Union (now Navigant). He was a member of the To Kalon Club and actively supported the Caritas House in Pawtucket.

He raised his family in Rhode Island and spent a great deal of time at a home he built on Prudence Island. In 1992, Norm and Jackie, his wife of 56 years, moved to Ft. Myers, FL where Norm immediately became active in the Landings Community. He served in various positions on the board of Schooner Village for 17 years, including President.

Norm was a lifelong boater and obtained a US Coast Guard captain’s license. He owned boats in both RI and FL, his most recent being “Da Monk”. Norm also coordinated the Landings Model Yacht Club events for 17 years.

Norm was a recreational pilot, owning several planes over the years which he flew out of North Central Airport in Lincoln, RI. He continued to enjoy flying with friends for a number of years after moving to Ft. Myers.

Norm is survived by his wife Jackie Dorval; his sister Claudette Ferland; one daughter, Joanne Dorval; four sons and their spouses, Guy and Sharon Dorval, Glenn and Julie Dorval, Brian and Samantha Stead-Dorval and Scott and Angie Dorval; and 6 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 27 at the Landing’s Helm Club.
